I fail to see the “usability” when the user has to choose COM ports (one of the arbitrary, the other fixed, but how do you know??). Why doesn’t the device do all this crap for us?
COM ports come from DOS and IBM’s first PC, released in the late seventies. What century are we in??? C’mon MS, we all *think* you can do better, but we’re still waiting.

I have a Sprint Pocket PC 6700 and I don’t have this option. Am I not running Windows Mobile 5? I have a Holux GR-231 bluethooth receiver and would like to use it with my pocket PC, but don’t see a way to get it working. Anyone have any ideas?

To enable GPS in ‘Settings’ use a regeditor and do this:
Start up a registry editor (i usedPHM regedit)
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
Delet the Dword in there and the value and replace them with:
A new DWORD called “Group” and give it the value of “2″ (dec)
And create a new string called “(default)” with no value (I think there was originally a string called redirect, rename this “(default)” if it’s there
The GPS panel will now show up in your connection settings.
note: you may have to soft reset after each stage if it appears not to work straight away

I’m using a PPC-6700 and Haicon HI-406BT-C GPS receiver, and although the above mentioned configuration, I have an issue with the automatic management aspect. Specifically, each time I turn on the GPS application I am notified by WM5 that the BT GPS wants to connect…basically, if I want to use the BT GPS I have to pair it with my device EACH TIME (responding to the notification, entering the passcode, selecting the COM port, etc.).
This is a real disappointment…is Microsoft’s impression of automatically managing my GPS??
Thanks,
- Doug

CC and Ben,
I also have the g0dlike PPC-6700, and after:
>Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
>Delet the Dword in there and the value and replace them with:
>A new DWORD called “Group” and give it the value of “2″ (dec)
And a new GPS icon should show up in your “CONNECTIONS” tab, as stated above.
Thank you Pewe for that wonderful hax tip. I had knew the value but could not find WHERE it should have been put.
